Audirvana
Audirvana is a software music player for Windows and macOS operating systems, for stereo and multichannel recordings. It supports streaming services and integration of VST plugins. More information about Audirvana can be found here.
Although Audirvana supports playback of multichannel music, but unfortunately, the integrated signal processing doesn't support binaural rendering, see below for details.
The software presented on this webpage has been tried and tested by us. However, please do note that it comes from a third party that is not connected to myHRTF in any way. Hence, we cannot guarantee that this software will work on your PC or laptop as described below.
Installation
Download the latest version of Audirvana here and install it on your PC or laptop. The generous trial period allows you to test it before making a purchase.
Configuration for Stereo
- Open the Settings menu.
- Open the advanced settings of Volume Control.
- Enable Software Volume Control and set the Maximum audio volume limit to approx. 30%, i.e. approx. -10 dB. More information why this is required can be found in the FAQ.
- Open the advanced settings of Processing.
- Enable Use VST effects and select the VST plugin of choice from the dropdown menu and click Configure to configure the VST plugin. Information about the configuration of Convology XT can be found here.
Configuration for Multichannel
Audirvana supports playback of multichannel music. Unfortunately, the integrated convolution engine doesn't support matrix convolution that is required for the use of myHRTF Personalized Filters. Moreover, Audirvana doesn't support multichannel VST plugins. Hence, for the use of myHRTF Personalized Filters with multichannel music additional software is required. For both ease of use and performance we recommend the Hang Loose DSP Software Suite. Alternatively, individual software solutions can be used:
- Virtual audio cable software in order to route multichannel audio signals to a plugin host software, for example VB-Cable for Windows or BlackHole for macOS.
- Plugin host software in order to host plugins and process audio in realtime, for example Hang Lose Host for both Windows and macOS.
- Plugin for multichannel matrix convolution, for example Hang Lose Convolver for both Windows and macOS.
- Information about the configuration of Hang Loose Convolver can be found here.
Signal clipping
Setting the Maximum audio volume limit to approx. 30%, i.e. approx. -10 dB as described above, the clipping of audio signals is virtually impossible since the required headroom has been taken into account during the design of myHRTF Personalized Filters.
Sampling rate
Stereo: using Convology XT with myHRTF Personalized Filters as described above, the filter sampling rate will be adapted automatically by means of the high-quality sampling rate converter integrated in Convology XT. In order to avoid a loss of resolution, the filters contained in myHRTF for Convology XT feature 96 kHz sampling rate.
Multichannel: Hang Loose Convolver chooses the appropriate configuration with matching sampling rate from any of the selected subfolders in myHRTF Filters and .cfg Files automatically. However, do note the supported sampling rates of myHRTF Personalized Filters as specified here.
