Convology XT
Convology XT is a convolution plugin by company Wave Arts that comes as VST2, VST3, AU and AAX plugin for Windows and macOS operating systems. It supports stereo and is recommended here since it allows easy switching between different configurations that are included in myHRTF Personalized Filters with visual support. Moreover, Convology XT can be downloaded for free.
The software presented on this webpage has been tried and tested by us. However, please do note that it comes from a third party that is not connected to myHRTF in any way. Hence, we cannot guarantee that this software will work on your PC or laptop as described.
Installation
Download Convology XT here and install it on your PC or Laptop. After installation you will find it in the following folder typcially (among others):
Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
Mac: Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST3
Configuration
- Start the software that hosts Convology XT and scan for new plugins in case this is not done automatically.
- Load Convology XT and open its graphical user interface.
- Select IMAGE in order to see visual representations of the myHRTF filter selected.
- Select File Browser and open the myHRTF for Convology XT folder that comes with myHRTF Personalized Filters.
- Untick Normalize since this is not required with myHRTF Personalized Filters.
- Turn Mix to 100% to ensure that you hear the filtered sound only.
- Leave all other settings unchanged as shown.
- Switch between myHRTF Personalized Filters by clicking it.
Signal clipping
myHRTF Personalized Filters require 10 dB of level headroom to prevent signal clipping. It is recommended to set a preamp gain of -10 dB in the software that hosts Convology XT. We strongly recommend to NOT set this gain inside Convology XT to avoid uncomfortably high and potentially harmful volume changes when switching the plugin on and off. Latency
Latency is the time delay between start of a sound event and its output at the audio interface. Convology XT in combination with myHRTF Personalized Filters for TV and Gaming feature sufficiently low latency for movies, TV and gaming. However, this may require to change the audio buffer size inside the software that hosts Convology XT. Additional information can be found here.
Sampling rate
Using Convology XT with myHRTF Personalized Filters as described above, the filter sampling rate will be adapted automatically by means of the high-quality sampling rate converter integrated in Convology XT. In order to avoid a loss of resolution, the filters contained in myHRTF for Convology XT have a sampling rate of 96 kHz.
